‘Tenzing’ Trailer Brings Tenzing Norgay’s Historic Everest Journey to the Screen

**Apple Original Films has released the official trailer for *Tenzing*, an upcoming biographical adventure drama centred on legendary Himalayan mountaineer Tenzing Norgay and the historic 1953 ascent of Mount Everest.**

The trailer was unveiled on **16 September 2026**, giving audiences a major first look at **Genden Phuntsok as Tenzing Norgay** and **Tom Hiddleston as New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary**. The film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker **Jennifer Peedom**, whose earlier work has also explored Himalayan climbing and Sherpa communities.

### A Different Perspective on the Everest Story

Based on true events, *Tenzing* follows Norgay’s journey as he becomes part of the British Everest expedition and ultimately reaches the world’s highest summit alongside Hillary.

What makes the trailer especially interesting is that it doesn’t focus only on the danger and physical challenge of Everest. It also highlights Tenzing’s personal and spiritual connection to the mountain, known in Tibetan tradition as **Chomolungma**, while exploring differences in culture, class and ambition within the expedition.

Apple says the story shows Tenzing having to prove that he belongs on the climbing team rather than simply serving it. His wife **Dawa**, played by **Thinley Lhamo**, and expedition secretary **Jill Henderson**, played by **Caitríona Balfe**, also play important roles in his journey.

### Genden Phuntsok and Tom Hiddleston Lead the Cast

Genden Phuntsok takes on the central role of Tenzing Norgay, while Tom Hiddleston portrays Edmund Hillary.

The supporting cast includes **Willem Dafoe as Colonel John Hunt**, Caitríona Balfe as Jill Henderson, Thinley Lhamo as Dawa and Tenzin Dalha as the younger Tenzing.

The newly released trailer shows the harsh conditions of the Everest expedition, the growing partnership between Tenzing and Hillary and the intense physical and emotional pressures faced by the climbers.

### Tenzing Norgay’s Story Takes Centre Stage

The film places Tenzing Norgay at the centre of a story that has often been told through the broader history of the 1953 British Everest expedition.

Director Jennifer Peedom has said the film aims to explore not just the achievement of reaching Everest’s summit, but also Tenzing’s spiritual relationship with the mountain, his identity and his personal ambition. Entertainment Weekly reported that the production also drew on knowledge from **Kanchha Sherpa**, the last surviving member of the 1953 expedition before his death in 2025.

For audiences from Nepal and the wider Himalayan community, that focus gives the film added significance, placing one of the region’s most internationally recognised historical figures at the heart of a major global production.

### When Will ‘Tenzing’ Be Released?

*Tenzing* is scheduled to arrive in **select cinemas on 9 October 2026**, followed by its worldwide streaming premiere on **Apple TV on 16 October 2026**.

With its dramatic Himalayan setting, international cast and strong focus on Tenzing Norgay’s own story, the trailer suggests the film will combine historical drama, adventure and a more personal look at the people behind one of mountaineering’s most famous achievements.
